AI Tool for Modeling Urban Flood Risks
The ARTIFACT Summer School 2025 offers a unique opportunity for students, researchers, and professionals to learn how to apply advanced AI tools in modeling urban flood risks. The FREE PROGRAM is part of the ARTIFACT project, and a series of three annual summer schools, aiming to enhance urban flood resilience through innovative AI techniques and sustainable practices.

Program Overview
The curriculum includes two days of lectures (days 1-2) delivered by various experts and two days (days 3-4) of practical work done by the students in groups. At the end of day 4 students will present their group’s work and results obtained. A more detailed programme is shown here below.
PROGRAM AGENDA
Day 1 (Monday June 30th): Fundamentals of Physics-Based Flood Modeling
- Introduction to physics-based flood models
- Data collection and processing for building and calibrating flood models
- Flood modeling software

Day 2 (Tuesday July 1st): Introduction to Deep Learning & Computer Vision & Remote Sensing Data for Flood Risk Management
- Deep learning models for flood risk management
- ML-based real-world applications for flood risk management
- Remount sensing data and real-world applications for flood detection

Day 3 (Wednesday July 2nd): Practical Applications (Part 1)
- Setup of the Python environment at participants laptops
- Group work on data preparation for flood modelling

Day 4 (Thursday July 3rd): Practical Applications (Part 2)
- Group work on ML model tuning for flood modelling

Field Study
- An additional day will be dedicated to a field study to 3Lateral company (part of EPIC Games) specializing in 3D environment and character creation for gaming (3lateral: https://www.3lateral.com/). More details about the visit will be provided soon.

This Summer School is for:
- Students, researchers, and professionals interested in computer science, AI, water management, urban planning, and environmental science.
The program offers
- Understanding the AI concepts relevant to modelling of urban flood risks;
- Working on real-world problems through collaborative exercises or case studies;
- Collaborating with engineers and professionals by integrating AI into water management.
Registration Details:
- Application Deadline: May 16, 2025
- Available places are limited, hence early registration is recommended.
- Registration is free and includes the full academic program and lunches on days 1-5 of the summer school. Travel and accommodation are self-funded.
*If there are multiple participants from Belgrade, the project may organize group transportation to Novi Sad.
